Massapequa Takes Action Coalition (MTAC) has recently been awarded a five-year Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant from the White House’s Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC). The DFC Support Program provides grants to community coalitions to strengthen the community by creating and sustaining ways to reduce local youth and adult substance use.

Two Massapequa High School 2023 graduating seniors, Tara Villaba and Victoria McCrystal, were recently awarded a $250 scholarship each from the Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162. This scholarship was for their work in the Massapequa High School Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) club to prevent youth substance use in the Massapequas.

Massapequa, NY - Massapequa Takes Action Coalition and Levittown Community Action Coalition worked together with Massapequa Police Athletic League (PAL) and Dek Superstars to develop signage on maintaining a substance-free sports arena. The signs read “Our athletes learn from you. Stay sober in the stands. This is an alcohol, marijuana, and vape-free space.”

Massapequa Elks Lodge #2162 recently recognized a Massapequa student for their artistic and creative work submitted to its Drug Free is Me Poster, Essay and Video Contest. Samaira Desai, a 5th Grade student attending Fairfield Elementary School, won First Place at the Massapequa Lodge, First Place at New York Elks State level, and her entry was sent to compete nationally for her vivid and capturing picture Conquer the world with your skills and stay safe.
